Motorola corrects the “unintentional” behavior of its mobile phones that interfered with the Amazon App

Motorola has corrected a “unintentional” behavior” detected on its brand’s ‘smartphones’ that interfered with the Amazon application to insert affiliate codes.

Last week some Motorola smartphone users detected that the Smart Feed application, which comes preinstalled, was interfering with shopping applications. As Trypocopris explained on Reddit, the first to warn of this behavior, when trying open the Amazon app the user was redirected to a url in the browser and later returned to Amazon but with an affiliate code.

It was also detected that this anomalous behavior of Motorola phones made requests to ‘devicenative.com’, a website for a service that places ads on smartphones.

Motorola has recognized this situation and assured that it “acted quickly” to correct this anomalous behavior, which it describes as “unintentional”, and that it “generated an inconsistent user experience.”

This is explained in a statement sent to the specialized portal 9to5Google. In it he also indicates that the origin is found in the development of a new search and app suggestion experience which he developed together with Device Native for Moto App Launcher, which aimed to “help users quickly find and open the applications they already have installed on their devices.”

“After identifying the problem, we quickly correct the routing configuration. “Now, users can expect all installed applications to launch directly as expected,” he added. What Motorola’s statement does not clarify is why an affiliation code was inserted.
