Apple presents Siri AI: its improved and smarter assistant with the new generation of Apple Intelligence

Apple has presented the next generation of Apple Intelligence, which arrives with the long-awaited renewed version of Siri AI, smarter and more integrated, available in the new iterations of the iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, whatchOS 27 and visionOS 27 operating systems.

The technology company has held its WWDC 26 developer conference for another year, as usual, at its headquarters in Apple Park, to announce the news of its platforms, applications and services. Although it stands out for being the last inaugurated and concluded by Tim Cook, who will leave the leadership of Apple as CEO to make way for John Ternus as his successor.

Among the new features announced, as expected, Apple has presented its next software versions for all its devices, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 that integrate design improvements and performance optimizations, making it easier to use in the daily lives of users.

APPLE INTELLIGENCE CON SIRI AI

Those from Cupertino have once again opted for innovation with artificial intelligence (AI) at this WWDC 26 conference, with the presentation of the next generation of their Apple Intelligence ecosystem, which boosts the capabilities of the new renewed version of their assistant which they refer to as Siri AI, which is smarter and more capable, integrated into the entire operating system.

These advances are based on a new architecture expressly designed to protect user privacy through private cloud computing, which have been custom developed together with the new collaboration with Google and its Gemini models, which has given rise to the new Apple Foundational Models.

Powered by the capabilities of Apple Intelligence, the technology company has introduced the new Siri AI, a redesigned version of the assistant and fully integrated into the experiences of iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro.

The company has stated that it is a “much more capable” conversational assistant, integrating understanding of personal context with access to all applications, extensive knowledge of the world with the ability to access information from the web and recognition of on-screen content. Likewise, it also offers “more detailed and fluid” answers, as well as a “natural and interactive” conversation.

As a result, Siri AI can use its understanding of personal context and combine it with searching for information in messages, emails, photos or files available on the user’s device, as well as on the web, to answer any user question or solve system-wide tasks.

For example, users can ask Siri AI to look up a restaurant recommendation from a friend in Messages and show the best route to take in Maps, or find and share photos from a specific trip with a family member. You can also add suggestions with information gathered from the Internet, for example, by searching for information for a recipe and creating a note with the data.

This new version of the assistant can also answer questions related to the content displayed on a user’s screen, by understanding these images as well. Additionally, users can interact using text or natural voice commands.

To access Siri AI in iOS 27, users can activate the assistant as usual by saying ‘Hey Siri’, pressing the lock button, or swiping down on the screen. The answers will appear in a box at the top of the screen that is generated from the Dynamic Island, however, Apple has introduced a new independent Siri experience that is accessed by simply enlarging said box, lengthening the conversation with the assistant in a chatbot format.

For iPad and Mac, Siri AI is integrated into Spotlight and the system’s context menus. Meanwhile, in Vision Pro, Siri’s AI takes advantage of spatial processing with a 3D visualization that users can place anywhere. It is also available on Apple Watch, CarPlay and AirPods, from where you can start a voice conversation with the assistant.

Added to this is the new exclusive Siri application, from which users can resume any conversation with the assistant by acting as a repository of the queries made. Likewise, they can also start new queries from the ‘app’ and use iCloud to privately synchronize conversation history between devices.

NEW APPLE INTELLIGENCE FEATURES IN APPS

In addition to Siri, Apple Intelligence capabilities are also integrated into applications, which become more powerful. This is the case of the Photos application, which has more advanced image models to make realistic image edits.

Specifically, Apple has included the Spatial Reframing feature, with which users can improve the composition of the photo by reimagining it from a different angle. Thus, just touch the photo and drag to change the camera perspective, as if it had been taken from higher up or from the side, maintaining coherence with the original scene.

The new Extend tool allows you to enlarge images by adjusting the aspect ratio or straightening a horizon by widening the margins and filling in missing parts. Additionally, the Clean tool has been improved to more easily remove objects from the background, offering a more realistic fill.

In Imagine Playground, the company now allows you to create high-quality images “in virtually any style” including photorealism, thanks to a new image generation model and the private cloud. It also allows you to easily edit images, touching or surrounding an object to move it or change its size. Likewise, it now also makes it possible to generate contact wallpapers or posters.

In the Safari app, Apple has simplified navigation with Apple Intelligence by automatically reorganizing all tabs and grouping them according to relevant themes. Additionally, with the Notify Me feature, you can ask Safari to self-monitor a web page for changes and notify users when, for example, there is a price drop for a product.

With the ‘Describe an extension’ feature users can create custom extensions for Safari describing the action they want and it will be added to the toolbar. For its part, in Safari and the Passwords application, Apple Intelligence can now automatically correct keys identified as weak or already compromised.

In Messages it will offer suggestions based on the context of conversations, such as creating an appointment reminder or a note. It also offers more useful suggestions in Mail, with the ability to interact with third-party applications and a more personalized writing style in Smart Reply.

Call Context also uses personal information to provide relevant data during a call, such as a restaurant reservation code. Likewise, the Shortcuts app adds the ‘Describe shortcut’ tool that creates a shortcut automatically through natural text.

The Home app, meanwhile, has also been updated with new features for HomeKit Secure Video cameras, with automatically generated descriptions of what is happening at the moment.

Both Siri AI and the new Apple Intelligence features are available starting this Monday in the Apple Developer Program and will arrive in the fall to iOS 27, with the exception of the European Union due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
