Google Account now supports a video selfie to log in if you forget your password

Google now allows verify account access from a user with a video selfie in case you want to recover it after forgetting the password, an option that has been surrounded by security measures to prevent identity theft.

The technology company has expanded the options to log in with the video selfie, which compares the image of the user’s face provided during configuration with that of a short video when trying to access the account.

This way of verifying the user’s identity has been designed “taking into account privacy and security”, as Google assures in a statement shared on its blog, where it explains that The video is recorded and stored with the user’s consent y It is protected with encryption, even when not in use.

Google has also highlighted the use of “multiple layers of privacy” to protect the user against fake videos created with AI that seek to impersonate their identity, known as ‘deepfakes’.

This new login mode is designed to facilitate recovery of the account when the password has been forgotten or when the smartphone has been lost and needs to be opened on another device.
