Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (Vinatom) and International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (Icise) signed a joint research cooperation agreement on nuclear physics and support for the development of young scientific staff.
On the afternoon of August 25 in Hanoi, Vinatom and Icise signed a cooperation agreement on scientific research, human resource training and connecting the domestic and international scientific community. The agreement was signed by Dr. Tran Chi Thanh, Director of Vinatom and Professor Tran Thanh Van, Director of Icise.
According to the agreement, nuclear physics and applications in energy, industry, health, and agriculture are the key areas of cooperation. Basic research cooperation directions also include high energy physics, quantum physics, photonics, radiation measurement techniques, ecology, marine environment and other interdisciplinary scientific fields suitable to the expertise and functions of both sides.
Vinatom and Icise will coordinately organize academic forums, professional training courses, joint research topics and projects, connecting research groups and networks of domestic and international experts. The two sides also agreed to increase support for students, graduate students, graduate students and young scientists through academic exchange and career development activities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Tran Chi Thanh assessed that cooperation with Icise will create conditions for the Institute to connect specialized research capacity in nuclear science and technology with an interdisciplinary academic environment and a network of international experts. This is an important direction of cooperation in the context that Vietnam is promoting research and application of atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
Vinatom representative also said that this agency is implementing a project to build an Institute model to meet new development requirements, in order to prepare organizational capacity, human resources and research infrastructure to carry out strategic tasks. This cooperation is expected to contribute to improving the quality of research, human resource training, expanding international integration and strengthening Vinatom’s role in the national science, technology and innovation ecosystem.
Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute belongs to the Ministry of Science and Technology, has the function of basic and applied research in the field of atomic energy, technical support to serve state management of atomic energy, radiation and nuclear safety.
Professor Tran Thanh Van expects the agreement will soon be concretized with joint research activities and support programs for young scientists. Through the international scientific network built over decades, Icise will connect reputable experts, creating opportunities for Vietnamese researchers to access new research directions and participate more deeply in the international scientific community.
Icise is a non-profit science and education center founded by Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Le Kim Ngoc in 2013, with the goal of creating a meeting space and academic exchange between scientists from developed and developing countries. To date, the center has organized nearly 200 international science events and more than 45 thematic science schools, attracting about 12,000 scientists from more than 40 countries and territories, including many Nobel Prize winners and prestigious international awards.
Representatives of Vinatom and Icise said the partnership will create quality research and training programs, contributing to the development of science, technology and human resources in Vietnam.
