Italian SMEs spend almost thirty days a year on the administrative management of payments

The survey highlights how over half of the respondents spend at least four hours a week on these taskswhile 26% manage to exceed six hours. Among the most onerous operations are the preparation of accounting data for tax professionals, indicated by 47% of the sample, the verification of collections and the issuing of payment requests.

Despite the widespread adoption of electronic payment systems, operational efficiency remains hampered by the fragmentation of flows: two thirds of companies must regularly monitor transactions by dividing them by employee or point of sale, and 43% report frequent errors due to manual monitoring. This management pressure is part of a complex economic context, characterized by signs of a decline in consumer and business confidence detected by ISTAT, with almost half of the merchants expecting negative repercussions deriving from the contraction in purchasing power and regulatory compliance.

The Country Manager of myPOS Italia Alessandro Bocca declared: “Technology has solved the problem of accepting payments; now we are intervening on what happens after the sale: that is, the time taken away from administrative activities, which could be dedicated to growth. Merchants cannot control customers’ spending power or regulatory changes. However, they can identify internal processes that generate unnecessary work. Payment providers can play an important role, helping businesses manage both payments and the tasks that accompany them”.
