Android 14 introduces new customization options with generative AI

Google has incorporated generative artificial intelligence (AI) into its Android operating system, where it enables new customization options along with the Material You design language, a novelty that accompanies other privacy improvements to alert unwanted tracking.

The Android ecosystem is not limited to ‘smartphones’, but also includes smart watches and tablets. For the latter, it already has more than 50 applications from Google services adapted to the largest screens, as the company recalled at its annual Google I/O 2023 developer event.

In the case of WearOS, the company has announced the arrival of the native WhatsApp application this summer, which will bring more functions to the wrist, such as calls through the messaging ‘app’.

The company has also announced improvements to the ‘Find My Device’ feature. With an update, this service will be able to create a network of Android devices that will allow the location of lost paired accessories.

In privacy, the company has announced unknown tracking alerts, for those cases in which a tracking device (tag) is tracking the user’s location without their knowledge or permission.

Rich messaging has 800 million active users at Google Messages, and the company expects all operating systems to adopt it by the end of the year on its way to reaching billions of users.

The company has also shared the news in generative artificial intelligence, which plays a prominent role in Android customization. A novelty is Magic Compose, in Messages, which allows you to write a draft based on a series of tones predetermined by the AI.

Material You, introduced two years ago, grows in Android 14 with new options on the lock screen clock. The wallpapers also incorporate emoji. The user can decorate the background with the emoji of their choice and select the color palette. The emojis also have small animations.

A cinematic wallpaper is also incorporated, based on a photograph, which generates a subtle movement in the background to create a 3D image effect. And with the new generative AI, you can also create a custom background from a description. The color palette will automatically adapt to this new background.
