Google will create travel itineraries for you with AI using the generative search experience | SGE | Artificial intelligence | TECHNOLOGY

Google has announced that, as part of the so-called Search Generative Experience (SGE), users will be able to create itineraries and plan trips, with ideas about which places to visit, using generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Introduced at last year’s Goole I/O, SGE is an optional, experimental feature that brings this technology to search, offering overviews and more links at the top of search results for the purpose of show multiple perspectives on the queries made.

This experience first came to the United States in English. Then, to Japan and, starting in November of last year, it was launched in Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia and South Africa, among other countries. Likewise, its language support was expanded to Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Indonesian.

The company has recently announced news related to this experience, which has begun to be implemented automatically among some users in the United States. An update has also been released there that allows generative AI to be used to create travel itineraries.

Specifically, it has announced that it is testing new capabilities powered by this technology in Search “to do some of the heavy lifting” of planning a trip. In this way, SGE will send users “a set of suggestions that include activities and restaurants, as well as an overview of their flight and hotel options.”

The itineraries you display, therefore, will contain information such as reviews, links, photographs and other details of business accounts or establishments that other users have sent to Google.

The firm believes that with all these resources “organized in one place, it is easy to delve deeper and learn more about the destination or compare different options,” as it has noted in its blog.

Likewise, it has indicated that this capacity, currently only available in English, allows these travel ideas to be exported to its other services, such as Docs, Gmail or Maps. To take advantage of it, users will need to register with Search Labs and enable SGE.

Recommendations and personalized lists in Maps

Another novelty related to travel is the one that has begun to be introduced in the United States and Canada, which now have lists of recommendations of tourist places, which are displayed when searching for a specific location.

Likewise, it has commented that it is adding new tools to personalize the lists of places to visit, in order to “easily” organize travel plans and share the places visited.

In this way, when creating a list of Maps places, you can choose the order in which they appear, according to preferences or chronologically. Additionally, content can be linked to these points on the map to “get more context” about why they were saved in the list. For example, a review on a restaurant.

Google has finally mentioned that both updates will come to Google Maps for devices with iOS and Android operating systems worldwide at the end of this month.
