Xbox Cloud Gaming already supports mouse and keyboard, and some supported games are Fortnite and Doom 64 | | TECHNOLOGY

Xbox Cloud Gaming has begun offering mouse and keyboard support in preview version on PC, so that users can use them to play titles like Fornite, Doom 64 or Sea of Thieves through the Xbox cloud service on Edge and Chrome browsers and the Xbox app on Windows PC.

Currently, users who play the titles available in the Xbox Cloud Gaming catalog on PC must connect a controller to be able to control the video game. However, when playing on the computer, some users prefer to use the mouse and keyboard to execute the controls.

In this sense, in order to make it easier for players to enjoy the titles using these add-ons for PC, Xbox indicated in March 2022 that they were working on the development of mouse and keyboard support.

Now, two years later, Xbox has announced that it has added support for using a mouse and keyboard to play some video games in its Xbox Cloud Gaming catalog on PC. A feature available in compatible browsers, such as Edge and Chrome, and for the Xbox application on Windows computers.

However, for the moment it is a preview support, available only to users enrolled in PC Gaming Preview, as detailed by the company in a statement on its website about the Xbox Insider: Alpha version notes. Skip-Ahead (2408.240321-2200).

In this way, users will be able to natively use the mouse and keyboard when playing from a browser or from the Xbox application for Windows, instead of having to connect a controller.

Likewise, this option, still in testing, has begun to be implemented for a set of titles among those available on Xbox Cloud Gaming. Specifically, they already have support for keyboard and mouse in video games such as Fornite, ARK Survival Evolved, Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Halo Infinite, Atomic Heart, Sniper Elite 5, Deep Rock Galactic, High on Life, Zombie Army 4 Dead War, Gears Tactics, Pentiment, Doom 64 y Age of Empires 2.

On the other hand, Xbox has clarified that users who want to try this feature must enable preview functions in their browser. Additionally, the game stream must be in full screen mode to be able to use the mouse, otherwise you will not be able to “capture the pointer”.

The company has also noted that some games may initially display controller UI elements by default. That is, games will be able to display information such as ‘press ‘A’ to start’, even if a keyboard and mouse will be used to play. However, it will be enough to start using the mouse and keyboard, either by moving the cursor or pressing keys, for the user interface to adapt to these controls.
