Rescue chamois caught in a hunter's trap

Quang NamThe forest protection community group in Ta Lu commune, Dong Giang district, while patrolling, discovered a chamois caught in a hunter’s trap and rescued it.

On April 17, Mr. Le Hoang Son, Director of the Management Board of Sao La Species Conservation Area in Quang Nam, confirmed the information.

He said, a day ago, the Areh village community group went on patrol to protect the forest in sub-area 39, Ta Lu commune, in Sao La Conservation Area Quang Nam. They discovered an adult chamois, weighing about 40 kg of black fur, caught in a hunter’s trap.

The chamois was tightened by the cable on one of its front legs. It tried to wiggle free but was tightened and stood still. The security force group of six people controlled the chamois and removed the cable from its leg. After the rope was removed, the chamois ran into the forest.

Chamois scientific name Capricornis milneedwardsii, belongs to group IB, list of endangered, rare and precious forest plants and animals, prioritized for protection. This is an animal belonging to the bovine family, of the even-toed order, endemic in Southeast Asia, mainly in Indochina peninsula countries such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand…

In Vietnam, their numbers are currently decreasing due to hunting and trapping, and their habitat is narrowed and fragmented.
