Oliver Janich: Conspiracy theorists arrested in the Philippines

Conspiracy theorist Oliver Janich arrested

Conspiracy theorist Oliver Janich (53) was arrested in the Philippines on Wednesday. As the “Spiegel” reports, the Philippine authorities are investigating on suspicion of a crime.

In addition, there has been an arrest warrant against Janich in Germany since April 22 because of the public incitement to criminal offenses and insults.

The Munich public prosecutor’s office confirmed to “Spiegel” that they were investigating Janich: “There is a suspicion that the accused insulted another person in 2020 or 2021 – in each case publicly via Telegram – and called for the execution of a prominent person to be carried out and demanded the killing of former federal and state government members in the Federal Republic of Germany.”

In the corona pandemic, Janich attracted attention as one of the most radical German conspiracy ideologues and supporters of the QAnon movement. Born in Munich, he has been living in the Philippines for several years.

Janich has a Telegram channel with around 150,000 subscribers. In the messenger service, for example, the conspiracy theorist babbled on at the end of 2021 that it was necessary “to shoot all members of the government at federal and state level”.

With the help of his wide reach, Janich spreads “right-wing extremist content and fuels a general distrust among his supporters of the social, economic and political system in Germany,” the Bavarian intelligence agency told the “Spiegel”. (bw)
