Eisbären equalize the DEL quarter-final series against Straubing

The Eisbären Berlin got their first win in the playoff quarter-finals of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). In the second game, the German champions won against the Straubing Tigers 2-1 (1-1, 1-0, 0-0) and thus equalized the best-of-seven series at 1-1.

Attacker Ty Ronning decided the game with his two goals in favor of the capital, who showed a significant improvement compared to the 1:5 defeat last Tuesday.

The 14,200 spectators in the sold-out arena at Ostbahnhof saw a hard-fought, at times heated encounter from the start. Clear chances to score only arose in the final phase of the opening third. Ronning scored the first goal for the hosts in the 14th minute, but Stefan Loibl equalized for Straubing a little later (18th).

Only 57 seconds after the first break, the Berliners were able to use a numerical advantage to take the lead again. Ronning was the goalscorer again.

Afterwards, with great effort, the capital city residents managed to survive the Lower Bavarians’ difficult phases. Not least thanks to some strong saves from goalie Jonas Stettmer, the Eisbären ended up with a narrow victory.
