The head of the joint command of the Iranian Khatam al-Anbiya forces, Major General Ali Abollahi, said that if the “illegal American blockade” creates problems for Iranian maritime transport, official Tehran will consider it a violation of the terms of the truce.
“In this case, Iran’s powerful armed forces will not allow continued exports and imports through the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman and the Red Sea. Iran will use all its power to protect sovereignty and national interests, we will respond to any provocations,” he said.
Earlier, the US Central Command announced the full entry into force of the blockade of Iranian seaports. “In less than 36 hours after it began, US forces completely stopped Iranian maritime trade,” said CENTCOM head Adm. Bradley Cooper.
The military leader emphasized that the blockade applies to ships of all types trying to enter or leave Iranian ports in both the Persian and Oman Straits. “However, we do not restrict the freedom of navigation of other ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
