Robert F. Kennedy Jr at the heart of a controversy: a biography evokes a raccoon corpse whose penis he allegedly cut off

Barely released, “RFK Jr.: The Fall and Rise” is already getting a lot of attention. The biography of Robert F. Kennedy Jr, published this Tuesday and written by New York Post journalist Isabel Vincent, traces the journey of the nephew of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, currently Minister of Health in the Trump administration. The author claimed to have relied on a handwritten diary belonging to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

One passage in particular caught the attention of readers: written in the first person, it recalls the moment when Robert F. Kennedy Jr is said to have severed the penis of a dead raccoon, crushed on the road. “I stood in front of my parked car on I-684, removing the penis from a raccoon run over in the road, thinking about how weird some of my family members have become. (…) My children were waiting patiently in the car,” we can read in the extract rewritten by Isabel Vincent, dated 2001.

“I’m sure he has a freezer full of roadkill.”

This scene, which may be reminiscent of the beginnings of many serial killers, was explained by the author to People magazine. “You should know that Bobby dreamed of becoming a veterinarian when he was a child. After school, he worked at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. “So he has a tremendous love and interest in animals, and I’m sure he has a freezer full of roadkill that he studies,” she said. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. previously practiced as an environmental lawyer. TMZ, which questioned the American Minister of Health on this matter, only got a burst of laughter from him.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr has already been at the heart of several controversies involving animals, such as the dumping of a bear carcass in Central Park, the decapitation of a dead whale that he allegedly brought home and the alleged crushing of chicks and mice to feed his hawks.

A scale to assess one’s infidelities

“RFK Jr.: The Fall and Rise” is full of other more or less embarrassing anecdotes. In addition to his passion for animals, Robert F. Kennedy Jr appears to have a penchant for adultery. He thus allegedly developed a rudimentary rating system, fueled by deep self-loathing, to track his own infidelities. Plagued by what he called his “demons of lust,” Kennedy recorded each day whether he achieved a “victory”—a day without cheating on his second wife, Mary—or whether he was “seduced” by other women.

These interactions were accompanied by a name and a number between 1 and 10. A “10” meant sexual intercourse, while lower numbers indicated varying degrees of infidelity. “Like the fish he caught and the money he earned, Kennedy kept a list of the women he slept with,” writes Isabel Vincent. “(He) usually only used their first names to describe them, but included their full names if they were socially important.”
