“We need to stop a regime that threatens water traffic and we need to show courage. This regime will not change. No more blackmail, no more hostage taking, no more negotiating with terrorists. Imagine that a liberated Iran would immediately commit itself to restoring regional stability, to collaborating with its neighboring countries, with the Israelis and with the Saudis. You will no longer have to carry out police activities in the Middle East because at that point the doors will also open to economic opportunities, to prosperity. Something that will therefore lead to a more stable.” This was declared by Prince Reza Ciro Pahlavi, son of the Shah deposed by the 1979 revolution, during a meeting organized yesterday at the Center for American Studies in Rome, on the occasion of his visit to Italy.
“And this is what is at stake – Pahlavi added – the Iranians are ready to do their part, but we need help from the outside. This should be our focus. We should take advantage of this golden opportunity that perhaps will not arise again for decades in the future. What is the cost of allowing this to happen compared to ending this regime? At the same time this will eliminate every problem that you have had since the beginning of the regime: the nuclear threat, the support of proxy organizations and the radical terrorism that spreads in the West, regional instability, belligerence towards neighboring countries”.
Regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Pahlavi said: “Everyone is nervous about economic stability and the increase in oil prices. We all realize this but there is an even higher price to pay. If the situation continues like this, the consequences will be worse than you can imagine. There is a wounded animal that will now retaliate to take revenge and this cannot be allowed. The alliance between Tehran and Moscow is one of the key things to worry about. I don’t know what the China’s position, I think it has a very long-term perspective on global processes. China generally doesn’t care what kind of regime it faces, as long as its economic interests are preserved. It’s just a question of calculation. For democratic countries the approach is different and the best thing is to express solidarity with people who have the same visions and values.”
