The United States Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth praised this Friday the “decisive military results” in the war against Iran and affirmed that the Armed Forces of his country should be recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize “every year” to guarantee global security.
“We know what our mission is. We know what authority we have. We are very clear about it. We obey the president’s orders, we have lawyers everywhere analyzing what we do and why we do it, and giving us all the necessary authority, in accordance with the Constitution and our laws, to carry it out,” he said in an attempt not to increase the controversy with the Holy See after a tense meeting with the apostolic nuncio at the Pentagon at the beginning of the month.
Trump and his Administration have been criticized by Democratic members of Congress for what they see as an excess of powers by not having authorization from legislators for the war that began with Israel against Iran on February 28.
The Democratic minority has tried unsuccessfully to approve measures to limit the war powers of Trump, who has openly coveted the Nobel Peace Prize and harshly criticized the Norwegian Nobel Committee after not receiving the award in 2025, despite claiming to have ended multiple international conflicts.
