A group of suspected thieves were caught by plainclothes police at a construction site in Berlin-Britz and then sped away. In front of the officers, the men loaded building materials from a construction site into a car that night, the police said. When they noticed the officers, the men fled. According to reports, a police officer had to jump to the side at the last second to avoid being hit by the vehicle.
As they fled, the suspects sprayed the contents of a fire extinguisher. There were also accidents involving parked vehicles. When the 22-year-old driver jumped out of the rolling car, the escape ended not far away at a garden fence.
The driver was arrested and the other men escaped. The 22-year-old resisted his arrest. He was taken to hospital because of a head injury he suffered before his arrest. The police are now investigating, among other things, suspicion of serious gang theft.
