Hezbollah kills Israeli soldier and injures others in Lebanon

An attack carried out by the terrorist group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon against Israeli positions killed an Israeli soldier and left several other soldiers injured this Thursday (29), amid the escalation of tension in the region despite the ceasefire.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the dead soldier was identified as Liem Ben Hamo, 19, a member of the Golani Brigade. According to the Army, drones loaded with Hezbollah explosives hit troops positioned in the Qantara region, in southern Lebanon. One of the devices was intercepted, but another managed to reach the area, causing the death of the soldier and injuries to other soldiers.

The IDF said a second drone attack also left injuries elsewhere in the region, while a third device hit an artillery position near Israel’s northern border, causing a fire and injuring more soldiers. In total, at least 15 Israeli soldiers were injured in the different episodes recorded throughout the day.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the actions and stated, in statements, that the attacks targeted concentrations of Israeli troops, claiming that they were carried out in response to Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon. The terrorist group also claimed “confirmed hits” on the targets it hit.

In response, Israel launched a series of airstrikes against Hezbollah positions in Lebanese territory. According to the Israeli Army, the targets included structures used by the group to plan and execute attacks.

The episode occurs amid the weakening of the ceasefire brokered by the United States, signed at the beginning of this month. Despite the agreement, clashes between Israel and Hezbollah continue to be reported, with attacks being exchanged almost daily in the border region and military tension increasing.
