The Adalah group of lawyers demands that Israel reveal the whereabouts of the Spaniard detained in the flotilla

The Center for the Rights of the Arab Minority in Israel, Adalah, has demanded this Friday through a statement that the Israeli authorities immediately reveal the whereabouts of the Brazilian activists Thiago de Ávila and Spanish Saif Abukeshek, who were traveling in the Sumud Global Flotilla, intercepted “illegally” by the Army in international waters of the Mediterranean.

Adalah has demanded that the whereabouts of Silva and Abukeshek be immediately revealed, under what laws they have been detained, as well as the legal measures that the authorities intend to impose on them. Likewise, it has recalled the right to be immediately granted legal assistance before undergoing interrogations.

“Israel’s actions amount to the kidnapping of foreign civilians in international waters without legal authority,” denounced Adalah, who emphasizes that the flotilla “is a legitimate form of humanitarian action and solidarity” with the people of the Gaza Strip, which suffers from a “long-lasting illegal blockade.”

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday the arrest of 175 activists after having intercepted twenty boats off the coast of Greece that were heading towards the Gaza Strip with humanitarian aid.

This Monday, most of the detained people had been handed over to the Greek authorities; However, the Israeli Foreign Ministry has reported that De Ávila and Abukeshek would be transferred to Israel for interrogation.

In a joint statement, Spain and Brazil have condemned the “kidnapping” of their citizens in international waters, immediately demanding their release, as well as the possibility that they can receive consular and legal assistance.

Brazil and Spain have stressed that this action by Israel constitutes an affront to International Law and is sufficient reason to file legal actions before international courts.
