Two US soldiers missing during joint international exercises in Morocco

Two United States soldiers have been missing since Saturday in Morocco while participating in joint exercises in the southwest of the country, as reported by the African Command of the North American Army (AFRICOM) in a statement.

The two soldiers were participating in the African Lion 2026 exercises near the Cap Draa training area, near the Moroccan city of Tan Tan, at the time they were declared missing on May 2.

The US Africa Command, in its statement, has announced the immediate launch of a coordinated rescue operation in which Moroccan forces and other participants in the exercises will also participate, involving more than 5,600 troops from more than 40 countries.

“The incident remains under investigation and the search is ongoing,” concludes the AFRICOM statement.
