Plenković from Armenia: We have to be very wise in order for our tourist season to be of high quality

One of the ways to maintain Croatia’s competitiveness as a tourist destination is to be more favorable than others, which the government is trying to achieve by intervening in energy prices, the Prime Minister said on Monday in Armenia. Andrej Plenkovć.

“If the government reacts, the prices of derivatives are lower, and that is a prerequisite for us to enter the tourist season from the most favorable positions”, explained the Prime Minister of the government’s intervention in the formation of fuel prices.

On Monday, during a telephone session, the Croatian government adopted a decree according to which the price of gasoline fuel will remain unchanged at 1.64 euros for the next two weeks, while the price of diesel will decrease by six cents, to 1.72 euros.

Nappiesć added that “thanks to the reactions of the government, the prices of electricity and gas remained almost at the same level”, stressing that this is an important message to the entire economy.

The prime minister announced an upcoming government meeting with the entire tourism sector at the National and University Library, where competing policies of other countries in the Mediterranean and ways to attract tourists “in circumstances where conflicts flare up” will be discussed.

More than 50 percent of people decide on a destination at the last minute, based on the prices, says Plenkovi, “so we have to be very wise in order for the tourist season to be of high quality”.

Nappiesć answered the questions of journalists in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, where he is currently attending the eighth meeting of the European Political Community.

Since the war in the Middle East started in February, the Strait of Hormuz, which is of vital importance for energy trade, has been completely or partially blocked, so the government announced this morning that in order to protect citizens from rising gasoline prices, it waived part of the excise tax, which is one of the revenues of the state budget.

“For now, the Croatian budget can withstand future measures if the situation in Iran escalates again,” the prime minister estimated, because “so far everything is working well. We are one of the best when it comes to reducing the share of public debt in GDP.”

“The only thing that is happening is inflationary pressures, which we are now reacting to with precisely these interventions in the prices of energy products, because energy determines everything, without it there is no real economic activity. I think that what the government has adopted today is a good assumption for reducing further price increases”, Plenković concludes.

In Armenia, the Prime Minister signed a joint statement on strategic dialogue with that country. On the margins of the summit, a statement on the fight against drug trafficking was signed after the meeting of the European Coalition against Drugs initiated by Italy and France, as well as a joint statement on the fight against illegal migration.
