General Secretary and President To Lam arrives in New Delhi, starting his visit to India

Welcoming Vietnamese leaders at the airport were Indian Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai; Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Tshering Wangchuk Sherpa; Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai; Vietnamese Consul General in Mumbai Le Quang Bien along with Embassy officials and employees, the Vietnamese community and Vietnamese international students, according to VNA.

Throughout the capital New Delhi, the Indian government arranged portraits of General Secretary and President To Lam with bilingual welcome slogans. At the hotel, Indian artists welcomed Vietnamese leaders with traditional dances.

General Secretary and President To Lam received Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and met with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese community in India.

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong said that this is the first time the General Secretary and President have visited India in a new position, taking place on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 10th anniversary of establishing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Leaders of Vietnam and India will discuss strategic directions to promote cooperation and create breakthroughs in potential fields such as science – technology, innovation, digital transformation, healthcare, clean energy, infrastructure, promoting people-to-people exchanges, culture and religion.

Vietnam and India established diplomatic relations in 1972, upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016. Over the past decade, bilateral relations have made strong progress in all fields.

The two countries have agreed to increase two-way trade and investment turnover to 30 billion USD by 2030. The two sides will expand cooperation in defense and security industry, promote the field of science and technology, especially core technology, semiconductor chips, artificial intelligence, innovation, rare earth exploitation and processing, and develop and train information technology human resources.

India has 378 projects with a total investment capital of more than 1 billion USD in Vietnam. India’s main investment sectors are energy, mineral processing, agricultural product processing (coffee, tea, sugar), information technology, auto components, pharmaceuticals, hotels and infrastructure.
