Because of murder: Life imprisonment for speeders from Remscheid

Wuppertal – A good year after the fatal speeding accident in Remscheid, the verdict has been reached: the Wuppertal regional court sentenced the 25-year-old driver Burak A. to life imprisonment for murder in the first instance. He was also found guilty of attempted murder and illegal motor vehicle racing.

The man had a car with more than 700 hp on April 30th last year Sports car two young women captured. The 19 year old Hanna’s deathher friend Noelle (17) survived seriously injured. The court followed the public prosecutor’s request.

The chamber was convinced that the defendant was driving with a blood alcohol level of 1.46 per mille. As it started moving, the high-powered car swerved, hit the sidewalk and threw the two women through the air. The experts did not find any technical defects in the vehicle.

“Death accepted with approval”

The 25-year-old admitted that he had been driving, but denied intent to kill. He is not a murderer. His defense spoke of a driving error and overconfidence and pleaded negligent homicide.

The public prosecutor painted a different picture. Videos show previous speeds: up to 151 km/h in town and 217 km/h on a country road. In the meantime, the defendant had the engine power of his car increased from 639 to 850 hp. At the time of the accident, the car had over 720 hp – without the corresponding operating license.

The Prosecutor spoke of a “ticking time bomb”. It was only a matter of time before someone died. The court concluded that the defendant condoned the death of people when he accelerated to show off his car.

One second that changed everything

For Hanna (19), a night at a fire department festival ended fatally. Her friend survived with serious injuries. What started as a celebration turned into a nightmare for two young women. The trial ends with the verdict – but the pain does not end for the family of those killed. Burak A. can now appeal against the verdict.
