The Israeli security forces killed a Palestinian this Monday in an operation in the Qalandia refugee camp, located between Jerusalem and Kafr Aqab, according to the Palestinian authorities, who stated that the agents are now holding the body of the deceased.
The General Authority of Civil Affairs has specified in a brief statement published on social networks that the deceased is Aiman Rafiq Muhamad al Hashlamun, 30 years old, while the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian Authority has stressed that Israeli forces “hold his body.”
The Israeli Police have stated that the suspect opened fire on Israeli forces after getting out of a vehicle, prompting the officers to respond with gunfire, according to The Times of Israel. The event would have ended without victims among the agents.
Following this, Abu Obeida, spokesperson for the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), the Ezeldín al Qasam Brigades, expressed the group’s “pride” in Al Haslamun’s actions when “confronting the occupation forces that broke into the Qalandia refugee camp”, without claiming responsibility for the event, according to the newspaper ‘Filastin’.
Thus, he has also applauded the actions of another Palestinian attacker killed at the end of April by Israeli gunfire in the West Bank city of Silwad and has stressed that “these acts of resistance are not unusual for the mujahideen in the West Bank.” “They show the strength of our people, their rejection of injustice and their national relationship with the occupation,” he argued.
“We call on the brave youth of our people to confront, with all their strength, the soldiers of the occupation and their gangs of rapists who are desecrating various areas of the occupied West Bank,” said Abu Obeida, who has asked “not to allow new realities to be imposed on the ground” and “to be clear that sticks and knives are as effective against the Zionists as missile attacks.”
The event has taken place amid the spike in attacks by settlers and incursions by Israeli security forces since October 7, 2023, the date of the attacks against Israel led by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), although in the first nine months of that year record numbers of Palestinian deaths had been recorded in these territories in two decades, since the Second Intifada.
