Erdogan emphasized cooperation with the EU

Ankara again raised the issue of EU membership and restoration of the Customs Union. The President of Turkey emphasized that the recent regional events clearly emphasize the geopolitical significance of the relations between Turkey and the European Union.

Turkey applied for membership in the European family about 40 years ago, negotiations began in 2005, but the process is slow due to gaps in the field of human rights and democracy.

The president mentioned “green” energy as one of the main directions of cooperation with Belgium, stressing that Turkey is in the leading position in terms of installed capacities of renewable energy sources in Europe.
