Trump says Xi has committed not to supply military equipment to Iran

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Thursday that his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, has committed not to supply military equipment to Iran within the framework of his official visit to the Asian giant.

“They are not at war with us or anything like that. He has said that he is not going to provide military equipment. It is an important statement. He said it firmly today,” the Republican magnate indicated in an excerpt from an interview with the Fox News network published on social networks by the White House.

Trump has also reported that Xi has expressed his preference for China to continue buying oil from Tehran. According to a report published in March by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, the Asian giant buys around 90% of the oil that Iran exports.

“They would like the Strait of Hormuz to open immediately. I told him: ‘Well, we haven’t prevented it. They have done it,'” he argued, adding that the Chinese president has also expressed his disagreement with the collection of alleged tolls on vessels transiting the passage in the waters of the Persian Gulf.

On the other hand, Trump has stated that the Chinese president hopes that an agreement with Iran will be signed. “He made an offer if he could be of any help. Anyone who buys that much oil obviously has some kind of relationship with him (with Xi),” he said.
