A demonstration of solidarity with the “anarchists of the flotilla” beaten by the Spanish police took place in Bilbao.

About 2,000 people took part in a demonstration of solidarity in Bilbao with members of the “Sumuda flotilla”, who were beaten by Spanish police for disorderly conduct at the airport in that city.

The demonstrators chanted slogans of solidarity with the Palestinians and accused the Basque Country police of complicity in “Zionist crimes.”

Let us recall that on May 23, six Basque activists from the so-called “Sumud flotilla”, deported from Israel, arrived in Bilbao. At the airport, the activists were met by an organized crowd of supporters holding Palestinian flags.

Those greeting them staged an uncoordinated action right in the terminal, began to resist the security officers and started a fight. Police used batons to disperse the crowd and clear the terminal. As a result, both the activists themselves and their supporters suffered. Four instigators of the riots were detained.

On May 24, the Charge d’Affaires of the Spanish Embassy was summoned to the Israeli Foreign Ministry for an explanatory conversation “in connection with the manifestation of violence by the Spanish police against the anarchists of the flotilla.”

We add that the authorities of the Basque Country have begun an investigation into the incident. The Minister of Security of the government of this autonomous region of Spain, Bingen Supiria, expressed regret over the incident, emphasizing that he bears responsibility for it.
