“Ear pull”: USA and Big Techs react to censorship

“This episode in the USA arises from the fact that Moraes’ decisions were taken with absolute abuse of power and beyond jurisdictional activity”, states former law judge Adriano Soares da Costa.

“Today, in compliance with an order from a US federal court, Rumble and Trump Media notified Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil, via email,” said Martin De Luca, a lawyer representing Trump Media and the Rumble video platform.

“Moraes has to answer whether he actually committed a crime. After all, he used institutional instruments to corrupt not only Brazilian law, but also American law”, says lawyer Fabiana Barroso.

“Big techs” public charter

Furthermore, companies such as Google, Meta, TikTok and OpenAI criticized the federal government, through a public letter, for trying to regulate the Marco Civil da Internet via decree, based on non-definitive decisions of the STF and ignoring powers of the National Congress.

“It’s a real blow to parliamentarians, as Americans saw that it was a presidential decree. In other words, it was the responsibility of the Legislature, not the Executive”, says Barroso.

The companies warn of the “excessive removal of content” and the use of subjective concepts in decrees, such as “attacks on democracy” and “political violence”, which do not have a clear criminal definition and can serve as political persecution.
