The US and Iran have not yet agreed: Israel is studying a draft deal

The United States and Iran have agreed at the negotiator level on a draft memorandum to extend the current ceasefire by 60 days, but there is no final agreement yet. As reported by Reuters and Axios, the document must still be approved by US President Donald Trump and the Iranian leadership.

According to Axios, the preliminary memorandum provides for the extension of the ceasefire and the launch of a new stage of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program. Items under discussion include restoring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, removing mines and Iran abandoning attempts to collect tolls from ships passing through the strait.

The Guardian reports that Trump has handed over the draft agreement to US allies, including Israel, for review and comments. According to the publication, the document may also provide for the gradual lifting of the American naval blockade of Iranian ports, Tehran’s access to some of the frozen assets and limited easing of sanctions.

Against this backdrop, the US State Department and Treasury Department announced new sanctions against companies, individuals and vessels associated with the Iranian oil industry.

The key issue remains the Iranian nuclear program. Reuters writes that one of the main topics during the expected 60 days should be the stockpiles of highly enriched uranium accumulated by Iran. AP notes that the possibility of transferring part of these reserves to the control of a third party is being discussed, but there are no final agreements on this point.

US Vice President J.D. Vance said Washington and Tehran were “very close” to reaching an agreement, but acknowledged that Trump had not yet given final approval. According to American media reports, disputes continue in the White House about the wording of the document and the scope of concessions that the United States can offer Iran.

The Iranian side publicly confirms progress much more cautiously. Previously, Iranian official sources said that Tehran demands a cessation of attacks, lifting of the naval blockade, the release of frozen funds and compensation for damage from the strikes. Iranian media emphasized that the agreement is not yet final.

The Israeli leadership is studying the transferred project and expresses concern about possible concessions to Iran, primarily on the nuclear program and sanctions.
