The original plan was to put the major construction project Stuttgart 21 into operation at the end of this year. Now the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (FAZ) reports that the opening of the new through station will have to be postponed again – to the end of 2031. In its report, the newspaper refers to “people familiar with the project”. Deutsche Bahn initially did not comment on the news.
The further postponement of the opening date for the billion-dollar Stuttgart 21 project is the result of a comprehensive revision that the new railway boss Evelyn Palla initiated at the end of last year, the FAZ continues. Now the commissioning of the through station has to be postponed for years due to “drastic omissions” by the responsible Deutsche Bahn project company, the report continues.
According to the newspaper, Deutsche Bahn now wants to start operations at the through station in a staggered manner. This should lead to the first relief for rail customers at the end of 2027.
