He particularly pointed out the prosecution against the leader of the “Prosperous Armenia” party, Gagik Tsarukyan, considering that “a new round of pressure on members of the opposition, unwanted by the ruling circles” has begun.

“Western countries are completely silent about this. Their intervention in the last election campaign was unprecedented,” said the third president of Russia.

According to Medvedev, “Armenia is only a tool for the West against Russia.” “The West is most interested in clearing the political field of all those forces that call for maintaining healthy relations between Yerevan and Moscow,” he noted.

The Russian official warned that any step by Yerevan to break traditional ties with Russia will inevitably have serious consequences for the Armenian people.

Russia will judge the intentions of the Armenian authorities from their practical steps, said the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Russian Federation.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has not yet been congratulated by Russia on the occasion of his victory in the parliamentary elections, instead, various claims are being made from Moscow that the elections in Armenia were held with irregularities.

On June 11, Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed hope that he would receive the congratulations.

Ahead of the elections, Moscow imposed actual economic sanctions on Armenia, urging it to quickly decide whether to stay in the EAEU or join the European Union. Yerevan assures that for now it is possible to combine EAEU membership and EU aspirations.
