The video begins with the soldiers’ boots, marking the pulse of waiting on a military plane. It continues with a long shot that shows all of them, with helmets, camouflage uniforms and long weapons. And the voice of Donald Trump. “The United States military is unrivaled,” says the president of the United States.
It is the first commercial of the War Department, as the Republican renamed the US Department of Defense. It lasts 90 seconds and was paid for by the Pentagon, as a legend at the bottom of the image says. It will air on Sunday at the UFC gala that will be broadcast from the South Lawn of the White House. “Freedom 250” is the name of the program.
“The warrior ethic has returned to the War Department, and we invite our best young Americans to join our great fighting machine (when necessary),” the tycoon wrote in his Truth Social message.
The War Department’s first television ad was named after the military doctrine promoted by Trump: “Peace through strength.” That is the concept that the voice-over of the president of the United States repeats throughout the commercial. However, the images had already been released in another Pentagon campaign last year.
“The United States military is unrivaled. It projects power, denies passage to adversaries and protects our interests at the time and place of our choosing. The United States is winning. We will measure our success not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars we end. And perhaps most importantly, the wars we never entered,” underlines the message read by the American president.
“It’s called peace through strength. Every branch of our military is setting records in equipment. Through our power and strength, we will lead the world to peace. Our friends will respect us. Our enemies will fear us. And the entire world will admire the unmatched greatness of the United States military,” the announcer adds.
And he concludes: “If you attack the United States of America, We will pursue you and find you decisively, devastatingly and mercilessly.. God bless you. God bless our armed forces. God bless our men and women serving abroad. And God bless the United States of America.”
Despite the epic that Trump gave to the network message that anticipated the commercial, it is not the first television piece about the armed forces.
For decades, the United States government has been promoting recruitment campaigns for young people for its armed forces. And the War Department already released a video last year that showed, in large part, archival recordings that are now seen in the new commercial.
The previous spot also featured Trump’s voiceover. “No more distractions, no more electric tanks, no more gender confusion, no more climate change campaigns,” says the Republican.
That video was also distributed under the slogan “Peace through strength” at sporting events and on social media.
