Israeli media named the man killed in Montreal

Israeli media note that the incident occurred in a neighborhood where there are Jewish institutions and where many Jews live. A few tens of meters from the scene of the incident there is a kosher restaurant, a supermarket and Beit Chabad.

According to preliminary data, the attacker opened fire from the roof of the Hilton hotel, bullets hit the building opposite. At the height of the events, Montreal residents received an emergency alert on their phones urging them to avoid the area, stay indoors and stay away from windows.

Witnesses said they heard several dozen shots.

During the police operation, the Décarie motorway was closed in both directions, and metro trains stopped stopping at Namur station.

About an hour after the first shots were fired, police reported that the gunman had been shot dead. At a press conference, the chief of the Montreal Police Department later said there was no evidence that the shooter had an accomplice.

The attacker’s motives are still unknown. A number of Jewish publications report that the target could be Jewish establishments, but there is no official confirmation of this version yet.
