The exercise conducted by the EU at the level of the political and security committee in the Council on the ‘operation’ of article 42.7 of the Treaty on the EU, which provides for the mutual assistance of the other member countries of the Union in the event of a member state being attacked by a third country, does not appear to have been a great success.
EU High Representative Kaja Kallas told the College of Commissioners on 6 May in Brussels that the exercise highlighted the need to…..continue working to make it operational.
The High Representative, reports the minutes of the meeting consulted by Adnkronos, “concluded his presentation by reporting on the exercise to make Article 42(7) of the Treaty on European Union operational, which took place on 4 May with the ambassadors of the Political and Security Committee. He observed that the exercise demonstrated the importance of continuing work on the practical implementation of the article”.
