Art center: Deutsche Bank closes exhibition center in Berlin

Deutsche Bank is closing its PalaisPopulaire exhibition center in Berlin. The bank’s program is scheduled to expire at the end of 2026, the bank said in a statement. A big cultural festival is planned for November to say goodbye. The “Tagesspiegel” and the art magazine “Monopol” had previously reported.

The bank opened the art center in the former Princess Palace on Unter den Linden Boulevard in 2018. It replaced the nearby art gallery, in which the bank – initially with the Guggenheim Foundation – had shown international contemporary art.

Collection will be exhibited elsewhere

The rental agreement for the Palais Unter den Linden is now expiring, as a spokesman for Deutsche Bank confirmed. The financial company now wants to focus its cultural commitment in Berlin a little differently.

In the future, the focus should be even more on promoting contemporary art with flexible formats and young talent. “We want to make our collection, which includes around 2,000 works in Berlin alone, tangible at various locations and thus open it up to a wider audience,” it said.
