The EU Commission pays more 3.9 billion euros from the 90 billion euro loan to the Ukraine to support the country in procuring drones against the Russian war of aggression. As the EU authority announced on Tuesday in Brussels, further payments are to follow in the coming days until the Tranche of 6 billion euros for drones is completely covered. The disbursement follows an initial macro-financial assistance amounting to 3.2 billion euros.
“Ukraine’s ingenuity is the key to its success in resisting Russia’s large-scale invasion. We want to support this ingenuity,” said EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The investments would help Ukraine protect its citizens, defend its sovereignty and strengthen Europe’s security. Europe stands firmly on Ukraine’s side “for as long as it takes until a just and lasting peace is achieved,” emphasized von der Leyen.
According to the EU Commission, the upcoming payouts will continue to cover the procurement of drones and will also cover ammunition, missiles and air defense systems.
