In Austria: German (28) dies in paragliding crash

Neustift im Stubaital (Austria) – Fatal paragliding accident in the Stubaital: A German woman (28) fell over a forest on Neustift’s local mountain Elfer in the morning. She hit a tree and the young woman from Hesse died.

As the police announced on Saturday that the woman from the Schwalm-Eder district (Hesse) was paragliding on the Elfer around 10 a.m. on Friday. Suddenly she lost control of the screen for reasons that are still unclear. She “subsequently collided with a tree and sustained fatal injuries,” the statement said.

A man who was walking in the forest noticed the lifeless woman hanging around 40 meters high in a treetop. He alerted the emergency services, a police spokeswoman told dpa.

Paraglider falls in Achensee

Another German paraglider from North Rhine-Westphalia was also injured on Friday in the Austrian Tyrol. According to the police, his umbrella collapsed for an unknown reason and the man fell from a height of around 25 meters into Lake Achensee. Two boaters observed the 24-year-old’s accident, rescued the aviation athlete and brought him to the shore. The man from the Rhein-Sieg district was then flown to a clinic by helicopter.
