Maya Sandu nominated Vasile Tofan for the post of Prime Minister

President of Moldova Maya Sandu has officially nominated businessman Vasile Tofan for the position of Prime Minister.

“I think he will fulfill the three most important tasks facing Moldova: providing all the necessary conditions for EU integration, strengthening the resilience of state institutions and society, as well as restoring and restarting the economy,” Sandu said at a briefing today.

As reported by TV8, Tofan has 15 days to receive the vote of confidence of the parliament, to present the government’s activity program and to form the composition of the government.

On July 3, Prime Minister Alexandru Muntianu suddenly announced his resignation after a corruption scandal involving one of President Sandu’s relatives.

Moldovan investigative journalists found that after Sandu’s rise to power, some of Sandu’s closest relatives had taken inadequately well-paid government jobs.
