They open a terrorism investigation in France after finding a “weapon of war” near a synagogue

The French National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office has announced the opening of an investigation after the discovery of a “weapon of war” in a vehicle in Sarcelles, a district located on the outskirts of Paris and which has a large Jewish community.

The investigation contemplates “charges of criminal association with the purpose of preparing crimes against people, and of transport, possession and acquisition of category A and B weapons in relation to a terrorist enterprise,” reports BFMTV television.

The discovery of the weapon on Saturday night caused the evacuation of about 300 people who were in a synagogue. The vehicle was a stolen car, it was empty and its license plates were partially removed, according to investigation sources cited by the French network.

In the car, located about 500 meters from the Jewish temple, there was a Kalashnikov-type rifle, several magazines and a Beretta pistol with a magazine.

“We still do not know the reasons,” explained the French Interior Minister, Laurent Núñez. “The people have not yet been identified,” he added. Núñez has highlighted that three attacks have been “thwarted” so far this year, including a knife attack perpetrated last February against a police officer under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris during the ceremony of lighting the flame at the tomb of the unknown soldier.
