At 22:00 Israeli time, the US armed forces began their second wave of strikes against Iran of the day. This was reported by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
According to CENTCOM, the targets were military installations and assets that Iran uses to threaten ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The first wave was carried out during the day – before that, for several days, the United States attacked Iran only at night.
CENTCOM said the operation was carried out by order of the US President and is aimed at ensuring free navigation through the strait.
Iranian media report explosions in Bandar Abbas, Ahwaz, Konarak (in the south of Sistan province), Chabahar and Rasq (Baluchistan province).
The previous morning, CENTCOM announced the completion of another wave of strikes on Iran, which lasted seven hours. US fighter jets, drones and ships have used precision-guided munitions on dozens of military targets off Iran’s coastline and near the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM said the targets included missile sites, drone production and deployment facilities, naval forces and coastal defense systems. The commanders said the strikes were intended to limit Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping.
On the night of July 15, the US military resumed a naval blockade of ships heading to or leaving Iranian ports.
