Rubio: far-left terrorism needs to be “crushed”

The head of diplomacy for the Donald Trump government called the meeting in Washington with representatives from other governments with the aim of expanding coordination and sharing of information and strengthening international law enforcement mechanisms to combat this threat.

“Here in my country, many people in positions of power have repeatedly downplayed acts of violence — and even terrorism — treating them as legitimate forms of political expression, as long as they serve a left-wing cause,” Rubio said in his opening speech at the meeting.

“That’s why, during the so-called riots (over the death) of George Floyd in the summer of 2020 — when criminals and extremists burned down and looted major American cities, almost bringing the country to collapse — municipal governments across the country simply refused to prosecute the perpetrators of these acts of violence and terror,” said the American Secretary of State.

The articulation that the Trump administration seeks to undertake following this Thursday’s event is the Republican administration’s newest strategy against far-left groups.

Previously, the US government had designated Antifa and foreign far-left groups as terrorist organizations and offered rewards of up to $10 million for information that helps dismantle the financial mechanisms that support these groups.

“You are here because this is real, it is getting worse and it can no longer be denied or ignored,” Rubio said on Thursday. “Because the time has come to crush this evil for good. The fact is that nothing I have described now is new. Far-left political terrorism is not a recent or modern invention. It is not a fiction created by conservative politicians.”
