Burnham sets a maximum price of two pounds for bus tickets throughout the United Kingdom

The new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Andy Burnham, announced this Wednesday a maximum price of two pounds (about 2.34 euros) for bus tickets throughout the United Kingdom, a measure with which he seeks to alleviate the rise in the cost of living in the country.

“For too long, people said that cheaper transport was not an option. I don’t accept it. I’ve done it before and now I’m doing it again: a two-pound cap on bus fares for millions of people across the country,” said the brand new British ‘premier’ in a message on social media.

This measure comes just one day after the announcement of the reduction in taxes on the energy bill since October, a first measure adopted by its Executive with the purpose of improving the economic situation of British families.

For his part, the Minister of Finance, John Healy, has explained that this limit will be set at two pounds for the transport system throughout the United Kingdom and will last until the end of 2027. “It reduces fares by a third for millions of people,” he indicated. “This is how we begin to build a new economy, create new hope and advance the working class across the country,” he stressed.

Burnham has arrived at Downing Street with the drive to change the political and economic model of the last 40 years in the United Kingdom, emphasizing that the system has left aside many citizens and territories. On his first day in office he spoke of correcting the “wrong paths” taken in the 1980s, referring to the Margaret Thatcher era, when “politics became centralised, the economy was privatized and large parts of the country were deindustrialised”.

With an eye on improving the finances of ordinary citizens, the former mayor of Manchester has promised a plan before the end of the year with which he will launch a new model for the United Kingdom for the next decade. Burnham assumed the reins of the Government this Monday after the resignation of Keir Starmer, caused by the internal leadership crisis, promising to put an end to the open political crisis in the country after the Brexit referendum a decade ago.
