The court refused to release from the courtroom Artur Sargsyan, who received a mandate as a deputy on the list of the “Armenia” alliance and is under house arrest.
Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan submitted a motion to immediately remove Sargsyan’s restraining order, referring to the 2021 decision of the Constitutional Court that “a person who does not have the status of a deputy in prison cannot be kept in prison from the moment he acquires the status of a deputy.”
The prosecutor’s office objected, arguing that Sargsyan is a member of the National Assembly of the 8th convocation, and his immunity has been lifted. The opposition deputy was deprived of his immunity in July 2025.
Sargsyan has been under house arrest since December last year. He is accused in the case of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who led the street struggle in 2024 demanding the resignation of the prime minister.
Artur Sargsyan is accused of preparing terrorism and usurping the power, he does not accept the guilt.
