The State Duma of the VIII convocation completed its work. The deputies did not chant: “Russia! Putin! Victory!”

The final meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the VIII convocation was held in Moscow. Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, who spoke at it, summed up the results of its work, and also tried to organize a patriotic manifestation, which did not receive full support from the deputies.

Volodin listed three main directions of the Duma’s work: implementation of instructions contained in the president’s messages, legislative support for a “special military operation,” including support for military personnel, and work on questions asked by citizens. He noted that over five years of work, 2,980 laws have been adopted.

At the end of his speech, the speaker said: “There are many parties. There is one Motherland. I would like to wish everyone no vacations. Politicians do not have vacations. Victory for everyone. And for this you need to work, believe in Victory and do everything so that it comes as quickly as possible.” After this, Volodin began chanting “Russia! Putin! Victory!” As Meduza notes, the deputies stood up and began to applaud, but did not join the chant.

Let us add that a significant part of the laws is repressive in nature. In recent months alone, the Duma has allowed the president to use the army to protect “compatriots” in other countries, adopted a law to seize the property of opposition-minded emigrants, and limited access to banking services for Russians abroad. At the same time, a bill prohibiting deputies and officials from having property abroad was failed.
