Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) prevented the passage of six ships leaving the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz early this morning, Iranian state media reported.
“Today, in the early morning of July 27, six ships, turning off their navigation and positioning systems, intended to pass through an illegal and unsafe route south of the Strait of Hormuz,” the Iranian Broadcasting Agency (IBA) wrote in its telegram channel.
The message refers to the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, where Oman has declared that international rules for the use of waterways apply.
Iran, for its part, insists that the ships should sail along the route defined by the IRGC.
The IBA also reported that one of the six ships “came into an accident”, but no other source has yet confirmed the information.
Yesterday, the Tasnim news agency, which has close ties with the IRGC, reported that an oil tanker exploded in the Strait of Hormuz as a result of hitting a sea mine.
