General Secretary and President To Lam receives Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly

General Secretary and President To Lam requested the Vietnam – Cambodia parliament to actively promote cooperation projects and coordinate to promulgate policies to facilitate bilateral relations.

During the meeting at the Bac Bo Palace today, Cambodian National Assembly Chairman Khuon Sudary affirmed that Cambodia attaches importance to developing friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam; consider Vietnam’s success to be Cambodia’s success, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Chairman Khuon Sudary shared that the Cambodian parliament is coordinating closely with the Vietnamese parliament to actively implement high-level commitments and agreements between the two countries.

General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam always supports Cambodia’s peaceful, stable and prosperous development. Vietnamese leaders asked the two parliaments to actively promote cooperative programs and projects, coordinate research, and promulgate policies to facilitate bilateral relations.

The two sides emphasized the strategic significance of the relationship between the two Parties, two countries and between the three Parties and three countries Vietnam – Cambodia – Laos in the new situation, especially political trust, close cooperation in defense and security, economic cohesion and understanding and attachment between people.

The two sides also exchanged and shared views on international and regional issues of mutual concern; agreed to closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, especially in ASEAN and the Mekong Subregion. General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized the role of ASEAN and the importance of a peaceful and stable environment for all countries in the region and the world; Affirming that Vietnam is always ready to coordinate closely and actively in ASEAN’s common efforts, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, development, and strengthening intra-regional solidarity and the central role of ASEAN.

On the same afternoon, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly Khuon Sudary. The two leaders agreed to promote connection between the two economies, especially in the fields of transportation, infrastructure, telecommunications, finance and banking; coordinate to perfect new cooperation mechanisms to closely link the two economies; Promote the connection of Ho Chi Minh City – Moc Bai and Bavet – Phnom Penh expressways.

Vietnam – Cambodia will accelerate amendments and signing of new agreements to facilitate trade and border management; coordinate well to organize activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

Responding to the proposal of the Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly on strengthening cooperation in science and technology, innovation and attracting investment from Vietnam, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung agreed that this is a potential field in which the two sides can complement each other, and agreed to encourage Vietnamese businesses to expand investment in Cambodia.
