The Greek Coast Guard arrested eight tourists last week, including four Israeli citizens, after a targeted search carried out on board a private catamaran on the island of Lefkada, during which a large amount of drugs was found.
According to the reports in the local media, published today, the Coast Guard acted following intelligence information received in advance. The forces arrived at the port of Prygiali, on the eastern coast of the island, and in the presence of a representative from the judicial system they conducted a comprehensive search of the vessel.
During the search, more than 55 grams of cannabis, about 10 grams of crystalline MDMA, more than a dozen ecstasy pills and about 8 grams of cocaine in plastic packages were seized.
The authorities confiscated the catamaran along with the seized drugs. In addition, approximately 7,000 euros in cash, additional sums of money in various currencies, including shekels, as well as mobile phones and a laptop computer were seized. Along with the four Israelis, four other tourists were also arrested, citizens of Turkey, Italy, Spain and Latvia.
