Firefighters are also fighting the fire in the Peloponnese region, in the east of the territory, where aerial extinguishing operations are still not possible due to strong winds, although on the other hand, they have managed to control a large fire in the south of Crete.
The situation remains critical throughout the country and is expected to continue this way due to strong gusts of wind. Civil Protection has declared the highest alert level for the metropolitan region of Athens and the southern half of the island of Euboea, and one degree lower for Crete, the Peloponnese peninsula and the islands of the Aegean Sea, such as the Cyclades and Chios, as well as Lesbos, in the eastern Aegean.
