100 notices in one district alone: ​​Numerous violations of election posters in Berlin within one day

The central contact and advice center of the Marzahn-Hellersdorf public order office had received 58 reports of violations by Monday, a spokesman said. The district expects that a total of around 2,900 euros will come from fines. So far, no violation has been punished. According to the authorities, the fine is generally 50 euros per location. The height can still be adjusted.

In Tempelhof-Schöneberg, the public order office’s field staff checked on Saturday and Sunday whether election posters had been put up too early. It was said that no violations were initially registered. The controls continued at the start of the week. “By today’s lunch break, four incorrectly placed election posters had already been removed and confiscated,” said a spokeswoman for the authorities. Information from other districts was not initially available.

Hanging only allowed at midday

The parties were allowed to start putting up posters on Sunday – seven weeks before the elections to the House of Representatives and the district council assemblies on September 20th. Officially, the posters were only allowed to be put up from midday at 12 p.m. and not in the dark at midnight, as was the case in previous elections.

The state parliament changed the Berlin road law in time. The five parties represented in the state parliament alone, plus the FDP and BSW, say they want to advertise themselves with a total of almost a quarter of a million election posters.
