Studio Babelsberg was once again in the red last year. “The group’s total sales increased by 11.6 million euros to 68.1 million euros in the 2025 financial year,” the company said. Nevertheless, the consolidated result was a loss of 321,000 euros.
“After a cautious start to the year, utilization of the core activities of studio rental, production services and decoration construction developed positively, particularly in the second half of the 2025 financial year,” explained a spokeswoman for the company. The production of “The Hunger Games” made a significant contribution.
In 2024, total sales were 56.5 million euros. In 2022 it was significantly higher, at almost 109 million euros. In particular, the strikes by screenwriters and actors in the USA in 2023 as well as the aftermath of the corona pandemic have put a strain on the Babelsberg film studio in Potsdam since then.
The bottom line is that the studio group made a loss of 87,000 euros in 2024. The loss actually increased again last year. In 2022, Studio Babelsberg recorded a profit of around 2.8 million euros. According to its own information, the Filmschmiede is the oldest large-scale film studio in the world.
