Reuters: US representatives secretly met with Houthis

American representatives held a closed meeting with Houthi representatives in Oman over the weekend. This was reported by Reuters, citing five sources familiar with the progress of the negotiations.

According to the agency, the meeting took place at the US Embassy in Muscat with the assistance of the Omani authorities. On the Houthi side, in particular, Muhammad Abdelsalam and Abdelmalik al-Ajri took part in it.

The US State Department has not officially confirmed the negotiations.

Two Reuters sources said the Houthis told the U.S. side during the meeting that they had no intention of attacking U.S. vessels and intended to abide by the 2025 ceasefire agreement with Washington.

One of the agency’s sources, located in Yemen, claims that Houthi representatives also announced a refusal to attack Israeli and other commercial ships. According to the source, their only target is ships belonging to Saudi Arabia.
